Sorenson Communications® created the SVRS® Award of Excellence and Innovation in Interpreter Education to recognize interpreter education programs (IEPs) that are raising interpreter education standards and enhancing the overall quality of professional interpreting. Each year, Sorenson awards one IEP that exceeds typical educational standards, leverages technology and incorporates interaction with the Deaf community in its program. The award is open to all two- and four-year degree-granting IEPs in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.

The winning IEP will receive the following:

  • $8,000 to be reinvested in the IEP according to an approved spending plan
  • $2,000 credit to be used for direct purchase of training materials (i.e. books, software, etc.)
  • A trip for two IEP faculty to attend the 2016 Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT) Convention
  • An award trophy

Faculty from the winning IEP will participate in a best-practices “Innovator’s Showcase,” to be held at the winning IEP, sponsored and hosted by the VRSII.

Applications for the 2017 award will be accepted through June 30, 2017. The winning IEP will be notified by Aug. 20, 2017. Applications received after June 30, 2017, will be considered for the 2018 award.
