The VRS Interpreting Institute is a world-class training facility for all American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters and employs longer-term strategies to address the interpreter shortage. These strategies include:

1. Lending support to the accreditation process for existing interpreter education programs.
2. Developing recruitment plans for ASL and interpreting students.
3. Developing curricular guidelines for ASL and interpreting instruction.

At the Institute, students have access to the latest VRS equipment and state-of-the-art educational technology to expand and hone their interpreting skills. The Institute also provides a hands-on lab experience and ASL immersion. Additionally, there is also training for interpreters wishing to reenter the interpreting field and short-term training for pre-certified interpreters.

The Institute also has programs for ASL instructors looking to refine their skills and gain additional knowledge on the latest developments in linguistics, fingerspelling and classifiers. Programs also include mentor training.
